COMPETITION RULES - WA. State NBHA finals
1. NBHA State Finals will use 55-gallon metal barrels with closed ends. The starting gate or gates must remain the same throughout the entire event.
2. At the WA. NBHA State Finals gate will be closed upon entering arena.
3. The start/finish line and the barrel positions should be permanently marked and must remain the same throughout the entire event.
4. Any time contestant crosses the starting line, time will begin.
5. A contestant will receive a “no time” for missing the pattern.
6. Re-ride may be given for clock failure or interference. Any penalty incurred on the original run shall NOT be applied against the rerun; however, any penalty occurring on the rerun shall result in a no time. All re-rides will be run AFTER the last rider has run in the class and the arena will receive a rake before the rerun. Re-ride decision will be made State Director or appointed show official.
7. A contestant will be disqualified for running out of turn or for running a horse out of order of original draw. Those riding multiple horses MUST run their horses in the order of the draw. The only exception will be due to a replacement of a horse due to injury/sickness, a vet slip must be provided at the time of the change of horse and must be approved by the State Director.
8. A contestant will be disqualified for running out of turn. It is the contestant’s responsibility to know his/her draw position.
9. A contestant will be given a “no time” for knocking over a barrel. A “no time” will also be given if a barrel is knocked over and it sets up again on either end. Touching a barrel, including keeping it from falling is permitted without penalty.
10. A contestant will be given a no time if the horse rider falls during the run in such a manner as to break the pattern, or if the rider falls off the horse.
11. Contestants may ride any horse, regardless of ownership, and may ride as many horses as they choose in a class. However, a horse may NOT be shown by more than one person in a class, unless the following conditions are met:
a. Both contestants are members of the same immediate family who reside in the same household (husband, wife, children and grandchildren under 21).
b. Neither contestant is showing any other horse in that class.
c. In no case will the same horse be run more than twice in the same class.
12. Entries will close ˝ hour before the start of the race. Those who have not entered by the dates listed on the entry forms and the website will be assessed a late fee and placed in the late draw. If contestant has multiple horses late entered show officials will do their best to separate the multiple horses the best they can but there will be no guarantee offered for late entries with multiple horses.
13. The draw will be random for all classes on all three days of competition. The draw will not be altered and their will be no accommodations made for special draw positions. Rider substitution must be ok’d by the office prior to the start of the race.
14. Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during a competition.
15. Contestants will be allowed to circle their horse (2) two times after entering the arena. Contestants will be given a (3) gate call. Those who have horses with gate issues are asked to check in with the gate official and make them aware of the gate issue. We will work with all riders on these different gate issues but we reserve the right to disqualify a contestant should we feel the issue is unduly dangerous or unduly time consuming.
16. All late entries will be charged a $25.00 late fee.
17. All contestants must check in at the show office before competing.
18. Stalls are pre-assigned. There will be NO moving of stalls. Horses are not allowed to be tied to trailers overnight or portable pens.
19. No refunds without a medical/vet release. Office charges are NOT refunded. All vet/medical slips must be presented before the start of the event on Friday or Saturdays race, no refunds if this is not followed. Refund checks will b issued on or before July 31, 2008.
20. NBHA dress code will be enforced. Western long sleeve shirts/show attire only. NO scoop neck or T-shirts allowed. Appropriate footwear, with heel must be worn if on horse back at any time. Appropriate footwear and attire must also be worn if you are in the alleyways helping with a horse.
21. District Directors are the firs to approach with any questions. Any disputes will be made by the State Director. Please do not approach these people while they are on their horses getting ready for their own runs. This is simply a courtesy.
22. No dogs in fenced area, arena or stall barns. Dogs are allowed only in the RV area and parking lot.
23. Proof of current NBHA membership maybe asked for to receive checks/awards.
24. Contestants my be paid go-round money on more than one horse in each division.
25. Contestants will be asked to sign for any checks/awards received. Contestants will also be asked for social security numbers, please have available.
